In everyday riding, we may overlook the motorcycle crankshaft and focus solely on the engine, but the crankshaft is equally crucial, as it is a core component of the motorcycle.
The crankshaft of a motorcycle is typically an assembled component; when issues arise, the entire crankshaft should be replaced, as replacing only the bearings yields poor results. The crankshaft is a critical engine component that receives forces transmitted from the connecting rod and converts them into torque, which it then delivers to drive the engine’s auxiliary systems. Subjected to the combined effects of centrifugal forces from rotating masses, cyclic gas‑induced inertial forces, and reciprocating inertial forces, the crankshaft endures bending and torsional loads. Consequently, the crankshaft must possess adequate strength and stiffness, with a wear‑resistant journal surface, uniform operation, and excellent balance.
