We all know that the motorcycle crankshaft is a core component of the engine; so what about the connecting rod? The connecting rod is also an essential part of the engine. Today, we will analyze methods for correcting motorcycle connecting rods:
Securely mount the engine on the workbench, insert a brand‑new crankpin into the connecting rod’s crankpin bore, and use the appropriate tool to align the crankpin, thereby correcting any rod bowing. The key is to ensure that the line formed by the crankpin is as precisely parallel as possible to the surface of the engine block that contacts the cylinder. You can place a work light on the opposite side to help verify that the crankpin remains parallel to this surface. After achieving parallelism, let the assembly sit undisturbed for one full working day, then recheck. Once perfect parallelism is confirmed, proceed with a trial installation of the cylinder for inspection. The inspection procedure is as follows: install the lower cylinder head gasket, the piston assembly, and the cylinder according to standard assembly practices. Press the cylinder down into its normal operating position, rotate the crankshaft several revolutions, and observe whether the clearance between the piston crown and the cylinder wall is uniform. As long as there is no noticeable contact or excessive tightness against the cylinder wall along the axis of the crankpin, the engine is ready for use—ideally, the clearance between the piston crown and the cylinder liner should be very even.
