As an editor who has been deeply immersed in the motorcycle crankshaft industry for over a decade, I’ve long known that crankshaft production is a task that demands extremely high technical precision. So, how should a crankpin be repaired?
First, let’s examine the precision of the crankpin. When the roundness and cylindricity errors of the crank journal exceed 0.01 to 0.0125 mm, grinding should be performed on a dedicated crankpin grinder. The radial runout of the crankpin typically should not exceed 0.04 to 0.06 mm; if it exceeds 0.10 mm, corrective measures are required.
Method: Cold-press straightening method, hammering method
Cracks: magnetic particle inspection, oil‑impregnation and impact testing.
