Regarding wear on motorcycle crankshaft pins, let’s first examine what causes this wear. There are many factors that can lead to such wear, with insufficient engine oil being one of the most common. The typical remedy is to replace the crankshaft pin, and the replacement procedure is as follows:
Insert the new crankshaft pin. If the new pin is very tight, wrap fine sandpaper into a tube and insert it into the connecting‑rod small end bore to gently grind the surface; then slide the crankshaft pin back and forth in the hole. In an oil‑free condition, it should feel slightly snug. Throughout this process, ensure no engine oil is present. If the connecting‑rod small‑end crankshaft‑pin bore is severely worn and its inner diameter has increased, the crankshaft or the connecting rod must be replaced. This situation is uncommon in four‑stroke engines; in two‑stroke engines, the issue is usually the crankshaft‑pin needle bearing.
